This "Garbage Art Parade" tramped through the streets of downtown Warwick, NY in 2008 as part of Warwick's annual Summer Arts Festival. ClimateChangesArt hosted a series of costume and musical instrument workshops, helping participants to create their own instruments and outfits out of "garbage". Enlivened by the sounds of the local "Big Sky Ensemble" this event took the towns annual Art Parade, and literally recycled it. The event was aimed at encouraging people to think more about the quantity of trash they produce, and to provide creative solutions as to how they could be reused. The parade ended at Stanley Deming Park, where Mayor Newhart was presented with a hand painted recycling bin, and publicly announced that recycling bins would be placed throughout downtown Warwick. A Garbage Art Parade is a great way to bring a community together, and it’s free! Organize one for your community, and appreciate the so often under-appreciated garbage.
