Paradise Farm Camp

ClimateChangesArt visited Paradise Farm Camp in July 2008. Paradise Farm Camp was founded in 1875 as part of the Children’s Country Week Association. For the last 135 years, it has been brining students from inner city Philadelphia to beautiful Downingtown, Pennsylvania. The camp brought in ClimateChangesArt to help them produce a lasting mural that would reflect the similiarities and differences between their campers’ lives in the city and in the country.

The result is this intricate mural: “When City Meets Country”, painted by more than 150 campers over the course of two weeks. Camp details, such as individual bunks, characters from camp legends, and invidual people dot the landscape of the painted Paradise Farm Camp. Similiarly, particular streets, monuments, and neighborhoods litter the depiction of Philiadelphia. Visitors linger infront of the mural, and each time people return they discover something new. This mural has captured not only a physical map of the camp, but also the feeling it inspires in all who visit it.
