History was made at Powershift09 as 12,000 youth activists from all over America converged in Washington DC to learn, share, and shape the future of America’s exploding environmental movement. The energy could not be contained in the walls of DC’s largest Conference hall, and on one occasion 1,000 youth spontaneously marched to the White House to demand strong climate action from newly elected President Obama. The energy was electrifying.

This educational convergence was followed by the largest lobby day in US history. With the youth delegates converging in front of the Capitol Building, despite snow and wind, to rally for “5 Million Green Jobs”, “No New Coal” and “Cut Carbon 80% by 2050”. ClimateChangesArt was involved from the beginning, organizing the massive art build that empowered students to create hundreds of hand painted signs, banners, placards, and even umbrellas. We also teamed up with 350.org to create the Powershift Cube, with an amazing image of our planet painted by a team of three activists who claimed to have “never painted before”.
