ClimateChangesArt appeared at the San Francisco Youth Unity Ecofest with their most ambitious recycled-art project to date. Using only recycled materials and eco-friendly paints donated by Eco Home Improvement in Berkeley, CA. Combining scraps of donated wood, with cardboard and fabric-scraps, this beautiful “pledge” tree was constructed (thank you to Greenpeace for letting us use their warehouse) by ClimateChangesArt. Participants in the festival were asked to write a specific “pledge” on colorful leaves made from fabric samples. These leaves were then placed on the garbage tree, allowing it to flourish with promises to sustainability throughout the day.

      The entire Youth Unity Eco-Festival was organized and run by high school youth from across the bay area. This was truly a festival for youth, by youth. ClimateChangesArt facilitated this interactive art project, constructing tree branches from soda bottles and cans with students. It was important to youth facilitator Hai Chi, that the project be constructed using products that are commonly produced by teens. The idea to use soda bottles and cans came from seeing their prevalence in his school cafeteria and hallways.

      At the end of the project, the tree was recycled, and the wood scraps were donated to Building Resources. But the pledges participants remain as their commitment to a cleaner tomorrow.
